Germany's
Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Valley is highly regarded for its production of some of the
worlds best Rieslings, a tradition furthered once again by Carl Sittmann’s
2007 selection. Pale straw in color, this Riesling has subtle floral, grapefruit,
and honey suckle notes on the nose. It is soft on the entry, light to medium-bodied,
and has a crisp finish of ripe peaches and green apples. Pick up Carl Sittmann
Riesling for one of those fantastic summer nights sitting on a patio with friends.

Pontecilla
is made at the Bodega San Gregorio, a cave co-op founded in 1965 that counts
250 members. It is located in the Ribota River Valley, some 20 miles north of
the city of Calatayud, Spain. Pontecilla means a small bridge in old Spanish,
referring to the three-arched bridge on the property.
Many Roman ruins still dot the Spanish landscape, including a vast network of
stone paved roads. In Roman times (and most likely pre-Roman), road and path
junctions were marked with stone markers (cairns), like the ones on the label.
Major intersections had signposts of carved stone; secondary junctions often
had these cairns. To make key markers easier to distinguish from the surrounding
landscape, naturally colored rocks were often used.
The forward, fruity bouquet of Pontecilla Old Vines Tempranillo shows off some
jammy, ripe fruit aromas that are nicely framed by mild oak. Medium bodied and
quite dry, the palate still shows some richness and it has a rustic finish.
Grilled rib-eye steaks or burgers should make delightful company.
