Perfect Thanksgiving Wine Pairings

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and this year, we’re here to help you take the guessing out of pairing. Whether it’s a silky and smooth Pinot Noir to go with savory stuffing or a warming Sirah Port to complement your pumpkin pie, we’ll help you pick the perfect vino pairing—right down to the mashed potatoes!

Stuffing

Did you know that stuffing can really throw pairings off… especially if the recipe contains celery? Our tip: throw a little sage in the recipe and this side dish will pair perfectly with a Pinot Noir like Cambria’s.

Pairing Recommendations*: Sonoma River, Mirassou, Mark West, Bogle, Scratchpad, Meiomi, or Rodney Strong

Mashed Potatoes

Those who like to load up on this fluffy, starchy side should pick a crisp white Sauvignon Blanc to accompany it. The citrus-based profile can be complemented well by herb/mineral tastes.

Pairing Recommendations*: Kendall-Jackson Avant, Simi, Kenwood, William Hill Coastal, Chateau Ste. Michelle or Geyser Peak

Turkey

Nothing beats a Turkey and Riesling pairing, the classic standard. That’s not to say that other varietals won’t make an amazing combination—dark meat, cranberry sauce and Zinfandel create a rich and spicy burst of flavor when paired together.

Pumpkin Pie

The grand finale of Thanksgiving dinner deserves an equally critical pairing. An enticing dessert wine like a Port will impress taste buds with notes of dark cherry and anise, perfect even for those reluctant to try a dessert wine. But if fortified, sweet selections just aren’t your thing, we recommend a Moscato.
